There are often times in my life when I would subconsciously chant to myself I can’t do that because…..
The excuses would always be clearly presented. I realized that I was never held back by others or circumstances, I held myself back. The first step I had to take in order to change my subconscious beliefs was to accept accountability. Once I accepted accountability for my life which includes my thoughts and actions I was able to begin changing my self limiting beliefs.
The most challenging aspect that I and many others face in changing their self limiting beliefs is the ingrained repetition of messages repeated over time.
You would really like to try something, do something in your life and just when the thought of taking a step towards taking action occurs, doubts enter your mind;
- judgements are made about what others might think
- we label ourselves into something we are not
- we believe our false “musts”
- I “can’t” becomes a reliable word
- we neglect to accept what we are actually capable of
- we maintain a false belief of how the world actually works
The main debilitating factor is fear. We fear we are not good enough to move forward and complete the task or goal.
We can analyze our life and quickly visualize how we hold ourselves back due to our self limiting beliefs. These are what hold us back from being truly happy or achieving the success we envision.
Once you have taken accountability for your life and decide you want to change how you think about yourself, you can begin to take steps towards what you want to do without hesitation.
Ask yourself where your belief originated from? Did you allow someone to instill this belief in your mind?
Look at current and past accomplishments that you have achieved and this will help dismiss the falsity of your self limiting belief that you currently revert back to.
Start substituting the belief with something positive to reaffirm that it is not true and you are capable of much more.
We need to pinpoint our fear. What am I afraid of? Our fears hold us back and we need to understand why they appear. When we submit to our fears it over rules our rational thinking and distorts reality.
How I am taking steps to change my self limiting beliefs
⇒ I have decided to take accountability and responsibility for my decisions and actions in my life.
⇒ Analyzed my beliefs about myself. Gave permission to myself to change them.
⇒ Substituted positive beliefs with my beliefs which are limiting or holding me back from things I want to try or achieve.
⇒ Reaffirm with successful experiences past and current which dispel self limiting beliefs. Build new experiences by starting small and progressing with consistency.
⇒ Determine what my fear is. Ask why I have this fear. Make a plan and take action to allow rational thinking to take control.
⇒ Be true to myself and live within my values.
⇒ Practice overcoming the hesitation of taking action.
You are never truly free to do whatever you want until you believe you are free. I realize that changing your self limiting beliefs takes practice and commitment. Dedicating yourself to these actions will transform your experiences and life into something you knew was possible but didn’t know how it was possible to achieve.
The answer to overcoming and abolishing your self limiting beliefs lies within yourself. When we realize that, anything is possible.
