A valuable word that I have recently added to my daily vocabulary and adapted into my daily living is;
SELF EFFICACY.
Where has this word been throughout my life?
I now realize this is a trait that must be placed with high importance on developing in order to continue succeeding and progressing towards goals and dreams we have.
What does self efficacy really mean?
It is our beliefs about our abilities to succeed in specific situations or accomplishing a task.
Self efficacy can help how we approach goals, tasks and challenges.
It reflects our confidence in our ability to gain control over our motivation, behavior and social environment.
Self efficacy is something that happens before we experience the effects of self esteem in our behaviors and actions.
People with high self efficacy manage themselves by taking better care of themselves, seeing tasks as something to be mastered and feeling more empowered.
When someone has high efficacy they are not controlled by their circumstances. Setbacks are seen as challenges to be overcome. The hardships that are faced can be adjusted to, better than others with low self efficacy.
Failures are learned from and used as a way to learn towards success.
Ultimately, the magnificence of self efficacy is it affects how we feel, think and act.
As I reflect on my life and how I operate within it, there are certain areas that I am taking steps to adjust and improve. They may be circumstances that have been a weakness that I would like to develop which contribute to the overall goals and tasks I am trying to achieve.
However, I don’t believe this means my overall self efficacy is low. It may simply mean that my self efficacy is low in one particular area. Taking action and developing a plan to overcome and improve these areas instantly raises my self efficacy.
Some common steps towards building self efficacy
- Take one step at a time – Focus on small goals and achievements
- Acknowledge your past successes – Think about past successes or accomplishments you achieved. Things you didn’t think you could. These are the pillars that boost your confidence of “what you are capable of” and can do, and begin to change the process of belief in yourself.
- Believe and see – Visualize yourself achieving and accomplishing whatever it is that you set out to do. Change your mindset from thinking that you might be able to do it, to knowing that you WILL DO IT. Dedicating each day to visualizing yourself achieving the accomplishment.
- Find a role model – Finding someone who has been through or is going through similar circumstances and situations as you. How did they overcome them?
- Manage your positive thinking – Not allowing negative thoughts to rule your movement toward progress and accomplishment of what you are trying to achieve. Using motivation as a technique to guide you towards your goals and achievements. These may be inspiring quotes, music and visibly displayed PURPOSE of why you are doing what you are doing and the reason behind it. How will it change and improve your life?
- Find your support group – Assemble your support army. These are the people that will encourage, inspire and assist in accountability so you can tap into extra energy and enthusiasm on your many paths to accomplishment.
As I continue to look for ways to increase my self efficacy I know it will help create opportunities for achievement while maintaining a positive progression leading to momentum. It will progressively begin to become easier to build and keep constant through all life goal transitions……leading me towards my Hatching Dream.
