The definition of goal achievement is a very broad definition;
the result, achievement which effort is directed; aim; end.
I would like to suggest that “a goal” is never an end. It is always a continuation.
It is something that is ours and should not be influenced by others. What I mean by this is they should be in line with our values.
In order for our lives to be happy and fulfilled, our goals require a purpose. They must have meaning and significance contributing to our purpose. Why is it important to accomplish this goal? How will this help my life or others by achieving this goal?
Defining our goals gives all our effort a specific target to aim at. It focuses our energy on the defined details eliminating any peripheral distractions.
An example in my life is I would like to learn to play acoustic guitar. This is not specific.
Defining this goal: I would like to learn to play Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here on acoustic guitar by August 1/2016. We can then determine what tasks need to be taken in order for this to be achieved. We can also measure if this is realistic to expect within the time frame we have chosen. Why is this goal important to me? I have always dreamed of playing acoustic guitar, sitting outside or camping with my family and creating unforgettable moments with deeper connections.
Ensuring we have a timeline of when we would like to have the goal accomplished is also very important. This provides accountability and a way in which a plan can be devised so we can direct our efforts towards this achievement.
I am learning that many small goal achievements are crucial as I work towards larger goals. The momentum from many small accomplishments propels us forward. It is the many small goals that make up our large goals and the creation of a living reality from a dream we envisioned.
